UNSW - Educational Assessment Australia

ICAS-GAT

ICAS-GAT is a flexible assessment for schools who want an objective measurement of students’ general level of proficiency across the core subjects.

ICAS-GAT is a one-hour test containing English, Mathematics, Science and Writing tasks.

Who is ICAS-GAT for?

ICAS–GAT is aimed at students in the Middle Years (Years 6-8 Australia and Years 7-9 New Zealand), who are at a critical transition point in their education. It can be used as an assessment of new or existing students within a school, or to assess potential students applying to enter a school.

ICAS–GAT can be used as a secure test for scholarship purposes. It then becomes available for schools to use at their convenience for any purpose. It is suitable to use to test and re–test students to measure improvements in achievement over time.

What will ICAS-GAT tell me?

ICAS–GAT reports will give raw scores and a ranking for each student. Reports will provide descriptions of the skills and knowledge tested and show how each student performed on each question.

How does ICAS-GAT relate to EAA’s Placement Tests?

From 2008, EAA will no longer publish Placement Tests. The ICAS–GAT will provide similar information to schools but is offered in a more streamlined, flexible form at a fraction of the cost.

How much does ICAS-GAT cost? (Australia)

The cost is AUD 11.00 per student and a minimun order of ten students is required. The cost covers the supply of the test materials as a PDF file and the marking and reporting of results within 10 working days of receipt of the test books at EAA.

If schools would prefer to receive their test materials in hard copy, the additional cost per students will be AUD 5.50.

In 2008, ICAS–GAT will be available on 7 March. Schools wanting to use it as a secure test for scholarship purposes will be emailed the PDF of the test materials on that date.

Schools wanting to use ICAS–GAT for general assessment purposes can use it at any time from 7 March, and return the test books for marking at their convenience.
